Not to be audacious in any sort of manner, but I completely believe this blouse deserves a round of applause. It combines so many unexpected features to compile a statement worthy blouse. I am a sucker for metaphors, nonetheless ones that involve food. We have all seen those recipes on Pinterest that combine all of your favorite desserts into a single bar. You know, the Reese’s peanut butter cup-chocolate chip cookie dough-Oreo-double fudge brownies? Like these! Nine times out of ten these rich, gooey bars are too good to be true and rarely worth the calories. However, there is that one occasion when the result is complete decadence. That is this blouse by J. Crew. Let’s break it down into the elements of design, shall we?
Stripes. Check! In my wardrobe, I turn to stripes for a more so leisurely look. Of course, I do have the occasional button-up (down?) for professional dress, but the majority of my stripes reside in simple tees like this one. Stripes have such a casual, playful, and flirty nature! I think of Kate Spade, even Twiggy or Coco Chanel’s earlier designs. Even then stripes are (generally) presented in one direction, whether horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. This blouse is the triple threat.
Ruffles. Check! Other than lace, ruffles are one of the major components to a feminine + romantic ensemble. In other words, a date night with K calls for ruffles. Valentine’s day? Ruffles. This number has a skirted ruffle hem + ruffles mid-blouse perfecting the ideal ruffle ratio. Side note: how cute is this dress for the day of love?! It is available in pink or red and and flaunts the most darling asymmetric ruffles.
Neutrals. Check, yet again! This blouse features navy + ivory stripes to present quite the nautical appearance. Nonetheless, combining all these components is not terrible. In fact, I felt quite glamorous strutting around downtown! A pinch of stripes, a spoonful of ruffles, and a sprinkling of neutrals, is this blouse made with love or a recipe for disaster? I truly believe it is an acquired taste 😉 .
