With the New Years resolutions on high, many of you have committed to making 2017 a year of health and wellness. However, sometimes it can be a little tricky to maintain a faithful relationship with the gym when your very best girlfriends are texting you in dire need of a chips and guac date. It never seems to fail, when I workout in the evening I always end up with an event following my hour-long sweat session… or an excuse to skip the gym all together (oops!). However, I do have a few tips and tricks for keeping up with both your cardio and your girlfriends!
First, treat the gym as an appointment. Whether you compare it to a hair appointment or a doctor’s appointment, just mark it as equivalently important in your calendar. It is such a simple trick, but it works, I promise! Nine times out of ten, your girlfriends will not mind postponing cocktails for another hour. I always keep an extra tee + leggings in my the trunk of my car to make the transition from work to gym even easier, so I have absolutely no excuse to miss my ‘appointment.’ Don’t forget your headphones, too!
Second, keep your gym bag stocked with your post-gym primping and pampering necessities. In doing so, whenever your bestie 911s you 20 minutes into Fly Wheel, you will not have to arrive less than fresh. There are a few staples that I always keep in my gym tote: dry shampoo (also available in a little travel size), clean towels, deodorant, tinted moisturizer (I use the shade ‘opal’), mascara and cleansing towelettes (these wipes are incredible if you do not have a few minutes to shower right after the gym). I keep these in a Truffle pouch that fits simply in my favorite tote.
Third, if you know you have plans following your workout, wear transitional clothing. My workout wardrobe is fairly neutral, surprise surprise, so it is no trouble to throw on a cozy sweater to pair with my leggings of the day to compose a flawless ‘effortless casual’ look. One of my favorite ways to perfectly transition from fitness attire to a casual ensemble is throwing on a basic tee, my go-to vest, and a scarf to complete the look. If you just have a few errands to run after the gym or you are meeting a friend for a casual lunch, this look wins. Every time.
I also love using these for maintaining a crease-less pony during my workouts. My hair is incredibly thin and fine, so they do not quite maintain hold throughout an intense cardio workout, but they are perfect for a weight-lifting session. If you have thicker hair, these would be perfect for you!
