I have been getting a handful of questions about my summer makeup routine, so I thought I would share my summer beauty secrets with you all! With the seasons my wardrobe changes to suit and with that my makeup does, too. I am absolutely no beauty guru by any means, but I can tell you layers upon layers of coverage in good ol’ Missouri heat + humidity is a terrible idea. While I do love a flawless full-coverage face, I manage it a little differently in 100 degree temperatures!
STEP 1 | Prime
I have never really been a primer kind of gal. I am still on the fence of whether or not they truly allow my makeup to last longer or apply smoother for that matter. [If you know of any life-changing primers, let a girl know!!] However, I was recently gifted this Photo Finish Primer Water by Smashbox and it is definitely a tip toe in the right direction. Being a spray, it applies incredibly light weight. A.K.A. one less layer for sweet, sweet summertime heat. The result? Glowy, hydrated skin. Plus, it helps to wake me up in a refreshing manner. Smashbox claims you may apply before + after makeup, but I recommend only prior to avoid a sticky, smudgy look. I also love this and this for step one and this is on my wish-list!
STEP 2 | Foundation
While I do adore my Estee Lauder Double Wear (I wear shade 1C1 Cool Bone), sometimes it can be a little too heavy in the summer. Instead, I flaunt Loreal Pro Glow in the shade Nude Beige! It is classified as a ‘medium coverage’ foundation, but I find I can easily hide all of my freckles with a single coat #winning. For pool days or days of R&R, I opt for even less coverage and do one of two things. Somedays, I wear my favorite tinted moisturizer by Laura Mercier (included in the Nordstrom sale here!). Other days, I mix my favorite full-coverage foundation with an oil-free lotion, like this! If I know I am going to be out in the sun I this sunscreen for extra protection. Of course, I do conceal any blemishes and brighten my undereye with Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. I use the color ‘Fair – Neutral’ for undereye and ‘Light – Neutral’ for blemishes!
STEP 3 | Bronzer + Blush
My go-to bronzer in the summertime is Baked Gelato Illuminator by Laura Geller in the color ‘Gilded Honey.’ It suits nearly every skin tone! I get compliments wearing it on my fair complexion while one of my girlfriends with gorgeous bronze skin looks equally as fabulous. It promotes the perfect natural golden glow for your lustrous summer look. As far as blush goes, I steer away from the powders and more so towards the tints + stains for a lighter, more natural flush. I have been obsessed with this cheek + lip tint since I discovered the coordinating lip balm! It comes in a nail polish-esque bottle and I simply apply to my damp beauty blender and blend away.
STEP 4 | Eyes
I’m still learning how to rock a glamorous shadow without looking like I was punched in the face 6 hours prior. Not cute, Kait! Being so, my shadows are fairly neutral, but appropriate for a natural eye! I am obsessed with Sephora Shadows because they are inexpensive and I can create my own palette with their Z-Palette! My favorite pigments are Fashion Blogger, Ballet Shoes, and Bubble Shower. I have been eyeing this palette at the Nordstrom Sale to challenge myself to get a little more creative. Bonus: it includes a cheek palette. This is the mascara I have been using since high school and it has yet to fail me. I have dove into the pool and shed a few tears and I am still streak-free! However, if you are a little more cautious they do make a water resistant formula.
STEP 5 | Lips
Keeping in trend with the rest of my summer makeup routine I keep my lips lighter too! I line my lips with my favorite MAC liner (subculture) to prevent any unflattering bleeding and then apply my lip tint (yay for two-timing) and top with this gloss in ‘Nude’. The result is a flirty, rosy lip! I also love this nude lip kit for the perfect day-to-night transformation. To keep my lips primed and ready to go I use a soft bristle tooth brush to exfoliate and moisturize!
I hope you loved my summer beauty routine. If you have any questions send them my way!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
