As of now, K and I are officially back from our honeymoon and I have successfully packed and [somewhat] unpacked from our Hawaiian getaway. I may or not have started this post in April during my few week hiatus, but that is simply my type A personality taking over. I figured that compiling a ‘travel essentials’ post would also serve as a packing guide. With that, I could simultaneously check one more item off of my wedding to-do list. You say silly, I say efficient. 😉 It worked, too!
I hate to admit, but I am unfortunately quite the over-packer. Prior to packing I actually lay out anything + everything that I think I need. Then, I narrow down those items based on what will fit into my luggage. In theory I thought I would end up flaunting brand new maxi dresses every day of our honeymoon. In all seriousness I was beach bummin’ in a bikini all week. The same goes for my carry-on tote. Once reality sets in it is quite simple to squeeze all of my travel essentials into a dainty handbag.
For my carry-on bag I usually try to stick to a tote that is easily accessible. I brought along this tote (accented with my new initials, of course) by Gigi New York for Hawaii, but this one is nearly identical and under $50! I have two Truffle pouches which I keep front and center: one for organizing K and I’s passports, boarding passes, + other important paperwork and a second for all of my liquids. This Truffle Clarity Clutch is TSA approved so it could not be more perfect to throw in your carry-on.
I try to keep my beauty products in my carry-on to a minimum. I have read the rules over and over and over again, but I am still terrified of having them confiscated #goodytwoshoes. If I spend a pretty penny on a toner it better be sticking with me and not the lovely ladies and gentlemen of airport security. However, I do keep a moisturizer, lip balm (this is my favorite from the drugstore + hands down the best), and facial mist with me at all times… just be sure they are travel size!
Traveling can be rough on your skin. I have found that using these three products when traveling helps keep my icky dryness away. If I am traveling on a longer flight (a.k.a. one where I put away the books and bring out the zzzz’s) I use these makeup wipes prior to snoozing for a fresh face.
As for attire, I keep my outfit plain + simple. I have never quite understood why some choose to dress to the nines for a flight. Unless, of course, they have an important date immediately following landing. I on the other hand, prefer to stick to a simple tee and scarf, leggings, and shoes I can easily slide on and off to breeze through security. How cute are these espadrilles with flamingos?! K and I were actually the embarrassing couple that matched at the airport wearing our snazzy new ‘wifey‘ and ‘hubby‘ tees.
I always bring a scarf with me to the airport because it is so versatile. It may keep me warm, but also serve as a little pillow. Plus, you wouldn’t look wacky flaunting a scarf in the summer (this one is super fun) with a casual tank. I always pack a pair of fuzzy socks in my carry-on as well since I am that girl that is always chilly!
Lastly, I always pack a water bottle on board with me. Just be sure to fill it after you survive your way through security. I attempt to drink 100 ounces of water per day and this definitely helps! Those petite beverage cups do not quite suffice. Plus, keeping hydrated will also help maintain a lovely glow to your skin whilst traveling. Win win!
What are your travel essentials?!
